The town of Big Lick, now called Roanoke, was established in 1852. The area was attractive to manufacturers because of the railroad's presence. The Roanoke area was also home to many companies like American Viscose. In 2021, ACT Material Handling and ACT Construction Equipment merged their locations in Virginia. The new facility is centrally located in Roanoke, Virginia, and offers increased storage and service areas allowing for greater productivity.
